Came home for dinner, and just found out that there's gonna be a new vehicle in the K-Roll family come Friday!

My mom just leased a 2015 Explorer XLT!! This was the birthday gift she wanted all year; it's alright though, it's only a couple weeks off. :D

It's Ingot Silver with Charcoal interior, can't wait to see it Friday after class.

I'm also tasked with selling her current DD too:

$500 oughta do it for a rusty Windstrr with over 100k on the odometer and a new battery...

Sounds nearly identical to my dads. I will say that I have been airborne in in (by accident, I hit a dip in the road going about 45 when I should have gone 20.) Its a pretty decent ride.

Also, reliability wise it should be pretty decent. My dad has 2, a 2013 XLT with 50,000 miles, and a 2012 Base with about 45,000 miles, and he hasn't had any major issues.

Nice. People with white ones by me really get me every time because the local PD where I work uses Explorers.

I'd go for $800. Good round number. That way if someone tries talking you down, you can still get your $500 for it. It's the trick, take the number you want, and tack a few hundred on. Let the buyer talk themselves right into the number you wanted to get from the beginning.

So for example, the car I'm going to be selling soon, I want to get $2000 for it. That's all. It's been well kept but is by no means in perfect shape. Much like your Ruststar, it has rust.

But I still want $2000 for it, not a penny less. It is in good mechanical shape, and the rust can be taken care of for someone with the right tools and time.

Craigslist is full of people who will give you some stupid lowball offer hoping to get away with it. So I use their tactics against themselves. They give a lowball thinking they're going get me while I'm desperate for money and I'll take the first offer I get. Not so much really.

So their tactic is to just offer me something "significantly" lower than my asking price. So I inflate the asking price to something I'd love to get, but don't really expect. This way, if someone tries to haggle, it's always in my favor. 1) They know my asking price, not the price I will not go lower than 2) Anything over my lower limit is profit. So, for example, you list the car for $800, and some jackass sends you an email for $500. You could seal the deal, take it and run, because you're getting what you wanted. Just as easily, someone can come take a look, and offer you $600, which is $100 profit for you, because it's more than you are looking to get, and they buyer is haggling you down, so they're getting a deal too.

I would just hit it with detail spray and windex the windows. It can help make a good impression for a buyer that the car was taken care of and not just whipped into the ground.
